Abstract Objectives Purpose of this research was to find the best blue-emitting fluorescent substance for plastic scintillator used gamma radiation dosimetry. Scintillator should convert into blue light with high efficiency. Methods Plastic scintillators fixed concentration various additives, called wavelength shifters, absorbing ultraviolet and emitting were manufactured by radical bulk polymerization styrene. Light output measured compared commercial scintillator. Results Performed measurements charge Compton spectra confirmed usefulness majority researched substances as shifters in emission maximum at range visible light. Conclusions scintillation dosimeter may be constructed from polystyrene-based scintillators. Performance synthesized is close polystyrene
